Creamy Garlic Butter Pasta – A 20-Minute Weeknight Comfort

Creamy Garlic Butter Pasta – A 20-Minute Weeknight Comfort

Some of the best meals come from the moments when we have nothing planned and everything to do. This pasta was born on one of those nights — the fridge was nearly empty, and takeout felt like a last resort. But there it was: pasta, garlic, and butter. Simple ingredients that came together like magic.
In just 20 minutes, this creamy garlic butter pasta became a go-to in my kitchen — comforting, delicious, and so easy to make.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Ready in just 20 minutes

  • Made with pantry staples

  • Creamy, garlicky, and satisfying

  • Family-friendly and budget-friendly

Ingredients

  • 200g pasta (spaghetti, penne, or your favorite)

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 cup milk (or heavy cream for extra richness)

  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Optional: chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta according to package instructions. Before draining, reserve ½ cup of the pasta water.

  2. In a large pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. Pour in the milk and stir gently until warmed.

  4. Add the grated Parmesan cheese and stir until the sauce becomes creamy and smooth.

  5. Toss in the cooked pasta. Add a splash of reserved pasta water to loosen the sauce if needed.

  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with parsley if using, and serve hot.

Tips & Variations

  • Use freshly grated Parmesan for the best texture and flavor — pre-shredded cheese doesn’t melt as smoothly.

  • Don't burn the garlic! Sauté just until fragrant (about 1–2 minutes) — if it browns too much, it can taste bitter.

  • Save your pasta water — it's starchy and helps the sauce cling beautifully to the noodles.

  • Customize it! Add cooked chicken, shrimp, mushrooms, or spinach to make it more filling.

  • Go dairy-free by swapping in oat or almond milk and using vegan butter and cheese.

  • Make it spicy by adding a pinch of red pepper flakes while sautéing the garlic.

Final Bite

This creamy garlic butter pasta is a reminder that good food doesn’t have to be fancy — it just has to be real. Perfect for busy weeknights or when you need a little comfort on a plate.
